Clients are constantly asking me for nutritional advice. Why do most people still have no idea what to eat when they want to be healthy? What is a good breakfast? What can I eat for lunch? Why do I keep gaining weight when I eat really well?
It absolutely amazes me that so many people either have no clue or just don't care to learn about proper nutrition. It is a hobby of mine and I have enjoyed reading almost every nutrition book ever printed. I also read labels and I make it a point to learn about what some of those long ingredients are and why they are in my food. So let's get right to it. A few tips...
- Eat real food!!
- Avoid processed foods as much as possible.
- Avoid sugars... they are as addictive as most drugs.
- Avoid foods that are genetically modified organisms or gmo, which can cause all sorts of digestive issues.
- Avoid food coloring or dyes
- Avoid chemical artificial sweeteners
- Avoid high fructose corn syrup and partially hydrogenated oils
- Avoid all soda especially diet version.
So what are we to do? Educate yourself. Socrates once said, "There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance." If you are reading this you obviously have access to the internet. Research and learn! I truly believe that so many of the items sold in the typical supermarket are toxic.
There are lots of healthier options but it may require breaking some old habits. So much of eating is based on belief systems. Our minds like to deceive us. Our stomach has no sense of itself and all cravings come from the mind. Now that is a whole other article that I will not get into here.
Again, all of this is based on my own research and common sense. There are hundreds of diets out there and they all can justify their points. Whether it is food combining, vegetarianism, eating for your blood type, or going gluten free to name a few... all can be very valid and give you positive results. My simple advice is to follow the tips above and use some trial and error to see what works for you.
